Argentina Snatch Dramatic Draw Against Morocco
Medina's Last-Minute Goal Saves Argentina from Defeat
SAINT-ETIENNE, France (AP) —
Argentina came from 2-0 down to salvage a dramatic 2-2 draw against Morocco in a thrilling Group B clash at the 2024 Olympic Games on Thursday. Moroccan fans stormed the pitch in celebration, but their joy was short-lived as Argentina's goal was overturned for offside after a lengthy VAR review. In the closing stages of the game, Argentina hit the frame of the goal twice, and it seemed like they were going to be denied a much-needed equalizer. However, in the 15th minute of injury time, Cristian Medina pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and fired home to earn his side a share of the spoils. Argentina's fightback was all the more impressive considering they had fallen behind to goals from Omar Belhadj and Yawad El Yamiq in the first half. Ezequiel Barco pulled one back for Argentina in the second half, but it looked like Morocco were going to hold on for a famous victory. Morocco remain top of Group B with four points from two games, while Argentina move up to second place with two points. Spain, who beat Australia 1-0 earlier on Thursday, are third with three points, while Australia are bottom with zero points.
