French Tourist Attacked by Shark in Seychelles
Victim Airlifted to Hospital with Injuries
A French tourist was airlifted to hospital with injuries after she was attacked by a shark while swimming in the Seychelles. The incident occurred on Saturday night in the popular tourist destination of Anse Lazio on Praslin Island.
Suspected Tiger Shark or Great White Responsible
The victim, who has not been identified, is reported to have suffered serious injuries to her leg. She was airlifted to Victoria Hospital in the capital, Mahé, where she is receiving treatment.
Authorities suspect that a tiger shark or a great white may be responsible for the attack. This is based on the size and pattern of the bite marks. The attacks took place over a 12-day period.
The Seychelles Tourism Board has issued a warning to swimmers to be cautious and to avoid swimming in areas where sharks are known to be present.
Tourist's Husband Killed by Shark in 2011
The attack comes just over a year after a British tourist was killed by a shark while snorkeling in the Seychelles. The victim, Ian Redmond, was on his honeymoon with his wife, Gemma.
Gemma Redmond described the moment she heard her husband's awful scream as the shark attacked him. She said she saw the shark circling her husband's body and then swimming away.
The attacks have raised concerns about the safety of swimming in the Seychelles. However, the Seychelles Tourism Board insists that the islands are safe for tourists.
The French ambassador to Seychelles said that the victim of the latest attack is in stable condition. He said that the French government is providing consular assistance to the victim and her family.
The Seychelles is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches and clear waters. However, the recent shark attacks have raised concerns about the safety of swimming in the islands.
