Early Life and Education

Hajdi Korošec was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on September 12, 1968. From a young age, she demonstrated a passion for learning and a determination to make a difference in the world. Korošec excelled in her studies and went on to earn a degree in law from the University of Ljubljana.

During her time at university, Korošec became actively involved in student politics and social activism. She joined the Liberal Democratic Party and worked to promote democratic values and human rights. Her involvement in these activities foreshadowed her future career path as a political leader.

Political Career

After graduating from law school, Korošec began her political career by working as an advisor to the Minister of Justice. In 2000, she was elected to the Slovenian Parliament, where she served for two terms. During her time in Parliament, Korošec held several leadership positions, including Chair of the Committee on Equal Opportunities.

In 2004, Korošec was appointed Minister of Labour, Family, and Social Affairs. In this role, she oversaw a range of policies aimed at improving the lives of Slovenians, including initiatives to increase employment opportunities, support families, and protect vulnerable populations. Korošec's dedication to social justice and her commitment to making a positive impact on society were evident in her work as Minister.

In 2008, Korošec was elected Mayor of Ljubljana, becoming the first woman to hold this position. As Mayor, she led the city through a period of economic growth and social progress. Korošec's vision for Ljubljana included investing in infrastructure, promoting sustainable development, and creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

International Recognition

Korošec's leadership and dedication to public service have been recognized internationally. In 2011, she was awarded the World Mayor Prize, an award that recognizes outstanding achievements in urban leadership. Korošec was also appointed to the United Nations Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation.

In 2014, Korošec was elected President of the European Committee of the Regions, a consultative body that represents local and regional authorities in the European Union. In this role, she worked to promote the interests of local governments and advocate for policies that support sustainable development and social cohesion.
